MONUMENT TO A BODY WITHOUT ROOTS

MONUMENTO A UM CORPO SEM RAIZES
Performance [3 hours]. Knotty Festival of Performance at De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, England, UK, 2019.
Work made in collaboration with Emilio Rojas [MEX/USA].
Photograph by Alice Denny.

This action started with the assemblage of a large tree that was cut in a vacant lot near the space of the Art Residency in Folkestone. For two days, branches and trunks of different sizes and weights were carried inside the main gallery, where the artists started to develop the exercises of connection between their bodies, the space and the pieces of the tree. A week later, the tree was again relocated to a new exhibition space so to present the performance 'Monument to a body without Roots’ to a larger public audience. With the intention of putting the tree upright, the artists perform a series of games of balance between branches, trunks and their own bodies. An architectural-sculptural action, which over three hours, grows through this large area, forming a kind of forest of Totems.
